A GUBI CHAISE MAKES THE SPACE

This project spanned many months of lockdown in Victoria, yet we were still able to gather momentum during the initial stages of design as well as maintain regular close communication with our clients. Despite the challenges in place, they remained invested and trusting in equal parts; sharing the journey with us but also deferring to the Simone Haag team to take a strong design lead.

"I was drawn to the way that simone and her team make a house look and feel like a home. We didn’t want a ‘showroom’ look. Because the team explores further than the regular shops and have deep connections in the industry, we have so many unique moments in our home."

The brief was to create a home that was comfortable for a couple and their three boys. Creating a functional and durable interior was important, but it didn’t preclude us from selecting truly standout pieces that would bring gravitas, texture and personality to the interiors. The sitting room, for example, centres around a Gubi GMG chaise in a custom zig zag fabric contrasted against a bespoke, hand knotted silk and wool rug. The Gubi chaise along with the customised dining table, crafted by Thomas Lentini, serve as a metaphors for the studio’s constant striving for perfection.

"I am so thankful that we were able to work with Simone. She is super talented and her team were such a valuable asset. They take the hassle off your hands and make every decision with such care. We are so happy with the result. I would do it all over again!"

This project was also unique, given that Simone’s husband works for Agushi - the construction company that built the house. It engendered a sense of family throughout the project and meant that Simone was able to finish a project that her husband had started.
